FAQ
Questions, answered.
How we work, what it costs and who owns what.
What does Blocksail Labs do?+
We are a Web3 research and engineering company. We build our own products and embed senior engineers inside client teams across AI, decentralised compute and storage, real-world assets, infrastructure and security.
What is forward deployed engineering?+
Instead of handing over a spec, a small senior pod works inside your team, in your repos and channels, ships to production and leaves you with systems your people can run.
How is that different from a studio or agency?+
Studios sell hours and agencies sell decks. We take ownership of outcomes in production and stay accountable for reliability.
How big is a typical pod?+
Usually two to four senior engineers, shaped around the problem: protocol, infrastructure, security or AI.
How long are engagements?+
Most start with a short scoping phase, then run for one or more quarters. We plan the hand-over from day one.
How do you price work?+
Engagements are scoped per pod and phase, not by the hour. Contact us with your brief and we will propose a structure.
Who owns the code and IP?+
For client engagements, you own what we build for you. Terms are agreed up front in the contract.
Do you work on cloud or bare metal?+
Both. We run the same discipline, GitOps, observability and signed releases, on public cloud and on bare metal.
Which chains do you support?+
We are chain-agnostic and have operated infrastructure across a very wide range of L1s, L2s and rollups.
How do you handle security?+
Security is part of delivery: signed supply chains, zero-trust identity, least privilege, reviewed infrastructure and rehearsed incident response.
Do you do smart contract audits?+
We focus on engineering and operational security. For formal contract audits we work alongside specialist audit firms.
How do we start?+
Email hello@blocksail.dev with a short brief. We reply with questions, then propose a pod and first milestone.
